September 2022
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Over the next two weeks, your child will complete the Northwest Evaluation Association's (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) computer-adaptive assessments in reading and mathematics. Students in our elementary schools will begin testing the week of 12 September, and students in Weber begin testing the week of 19 September. These assessments are not required by New York State but will serve as a diagnostic measure to identify students who may need Response to Intervention (Rtl) progress monitoring services. In addition, the MAP assessments will help teachers determine their students' needs.
MAP assessments are unique in that they adjust to the appropriate level of your child's individual learning needs. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed. With the MAP assessments, teachers will be able to receive detailed, accurate information about your child's understanding of the learning standards in two areas: reading and mathematics.
These assessments, usually given at three points during the school year, will enable us to focus on every child's individual achievement and growth. Partnering between parents and teachers, and including this longitudinal data, can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children. Once the administration of the MAP assessments is completed, you will receive a report of your child's results/growth. During the interim, please refer to the Family Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/ for more information on resources for parents.
Should you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or your building principal.
Warmly,
Sean C. Feeney
