Dear Port Washington Families,
I look forward to reconnecting with our returning students, as well as welcoming our new families who have joined our district, for the first day of school on Thursday, September 1, 2022. Over the summer, our administration team and district wide staff developed and enhanced numerous academic offerings and upgrades to our facilities, and we can’t wait to get started on what promises to be a terrific school year ahead.
During the first two weeks of school, I ask for your patience as the transportation department navigates several dozen new bus routes. Our bus drivers are eager to meet their new riders and will need extra time greeting and getting to know them. Be assured that any delays you experience will be temporary.
I want you to be aware of some important COVID-19 health and safety protocols. As per the New York State Department of Health, we will continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines as issued. Any student or staff who reports a positive COVID-19 test is subject to a mandatory five-day isolation period from the onset of symptoms or positive test if no symptoms were exhibited. Our staff will guide you through the necessary steps for a return to school after the five-day isolation period.
Masks will continue to be optional; bus windows will be kept open to provide proper ventilation, as will building and classroom windows; hand sanitizing machines will continue to be made available throughout our school buildings.
Be reminded that all our school buildings continue to utilize air filtration systems, which are maintained at regular intervals. Our cleaning protocols continue to be very efficient at removing potential germs on surfaces.
As with any illness, please keep your child(ren) home if they are sick. If they become ill at school, they should immediately report to the school nurse. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your building nurse.
As always, our protocols must remain flexible and are subject to change, based on the latest circumstances and health guidance. We will promptly notify you of any changes.

Sincerely,
Michael J. Hynes, Ed.D.
