Emergency School Closings
In the event of an emergency school closing, or a delay in opening school, the district’s notification system will take effect.
You will be contacted by the district’s automated phone calling system in the event of school closings or delayed openings due to inclement weather.
Where to Get Information
The Pt. Washington school district website is: https://www.portnet.org/. The school district’s website will post school closing information starting at 6:00 AM. Additionally, starting at 6:00 AM, you may contact the Port Washington School District at 767-5000 for school closing information.
Early Dismissal
In the event it becomes necessary to dismiss school early due to an emergency, the following procedure will be implemented:
- The high school will be dismissed first
- The middle school will be dismissed next
- The elementary schools will be dismissed last
A message will be sent to parents at home, work and/or cellular phones within a few minutes. To ensure accurate delivery of messages, please inform your child’s school of any changes in emergency or contact information. It is expected that all parents will have an emergency plan in place with their child and home in case of an early dismissal.
Delayed Opening Procedures
In lieu of a decision to open or close the schools for the full day, the Superintendent is empowered to call for a 1-hour or 2-hour delayed opening. The following schedule will be followed when a delayed opening is declared:
Site/Program 1-Hour Delay 2-Hour Delay
Kindergarten-5th 9:20 AM 10:20 AM
Occupational Therapy:
AM Classes Canceled Canceled
PM Classes Regular time Regular time
Pick up times will be delayed I-hour or 2-hour for Out-of-the-District Special Education. Bus schedules will be delayed for 1-hour or 2-hour for all students.
Emergency Bus Stops
When a snowstorm hits during the day, school buses sometimes have trouble getting to bus stops in some areas and do not try to go up certain streets. On days like that, the school will call the parents to notify them of the problem so children can be met at emergency bus stop locations. If there are any questions, parents should call Manorhaven School at 767-5300 or Transportation at 767-5032.
